Tummy Tuck

What is tummy tuck?

Abdominoplasty, commonly known as tummy tuck, is a surgery in which the excess skin and fat tissue is removed from the abdominal area and the muscles are tightened.

What is the reason for fat accumulation and sagging around the abdomen area?

Pregnancy, weight gain and loss, lack of workout and genetical causes result in relaxation of muscles and the skin becomes saggy. Additionally, if the patient is overweight waist and pubis can also accumulate fat. During abdominoplasty, excess fat is also taken care of with liposuction and an esthetically better look is achieved.

What techniques are used in abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty can be done with two techniques:
  • Full abdominoplasty (full tummy tuck)
  • Mini abdominoplasty (mini tummy tuck)
  • In full abdominoplasty, with incisions alongside the c-section through the sides, the skin and the under-skin tissues are lifted from above the muscles. During the procedure the navel (belly button) stays in place. Skin, lifted to the ribs on the sides and to the sternum (breast area) from the front, is stretched and the excess are removed. During the procedure, if the muscles are relaxed or separated from each other, they are also stitched together. In mini abdominoplasty, only the excess skin and fat under the navel are removed.
